How to Spot a Bee Infestation

Bees are an essential part of our ecosystem but unfortunately those little critters can also be unhygienic and fatal to some humans especially if someone in your home is allergic to bee stings.  Since Bees are an endangered species, our treatment focuses on repelling them from the area rather than killing them. Once we repel them from the area, we remove the hive, so no stray animals get attracted to it.

Here are some things to look for if you suspect an in-home bee infestation!

Several Bees Inside Your Home

If you spot one lone bee inside your home, it shouldn’t be too much of a concern since it might have accidentally flown in but if you spot more than one. You should start looking for more signs.

Swarm of Bees Near An Outside Vent

If you see a swarm of bees outside a vent, it’d be safe to assume that some are probably going to venture into your home sooner or later. Especially since they might be building a hive inside the vent.

Dark Patches on Walls/Ceilings

If bees have started building a hive inside your home, the honey will lead to dark patches on your ceilings or wall. A dark patch might be due to other reasons as well but if you spot the first two signs, it might be a good idea to get us to look. Some people even notice honey leaking from their walls - if you spot that, be safe and call an exterminator service as soon as possible.

Quick Tip: When bees feel threatened, they release a pheromone which attracts other bees to their position so if you see a bee, try not to swat at it!

If you’re seeing bees in the neighbourhood, here are some tips to repel bees from entering your home.

  1. Use natural aromatic ingredients like peppermint oil, lemongrass, and citronella. These natural ingredients are also effective at removing mosquitos and other bugs!

  2. Ultrasonic Pest Repellents – these devices let out a high frequency that supposedly repel pests. These aren’t the most effective tools, but some people find them to work. Looking at this scientifically, there isn’t a cure-all frequency for pests and while it may be annoying for some pests, if there’s food laying around, it probably won’t repel them.

  3. Speaking of food, cover  your food up. By covering sugary and sweet foods, pests won’t be as attracted to come inside your home or backyard.

Again, bees are an endangered species and could be dangerous to some humans so if you suspect a bee infestation. Give us a call, we’ll take a look out for you and get your home bee free.Bee Problem? It won’t bee a problem for long.
